Q1. What is the waiting time of different types of driving tests? Where can I obtain the relevant information?

There is no fixed waiting time for different types of driving tests. In general, the waiting time of a driving test depends on the demand for that type of test. Q2. What are the system requirements of the computer used by Internet user?

 

Q3. Any time out limit for the system?

The system will automatically log out if you leave your computer idle for longer than 25 minutes. The system will also log out automatically after 15 minutes if you complete reservation,.

 

Q4. What should I note when attending the scheduled driving test?

You have to arrive at the assigned driving test centre 15 minutes before the test. You should bring along your identity document and valid driving licence (if applicable), printed appointment letter and other required documents as stated in the appointment letter.

You may call 1823 Call Centre whenever you have any enquiry.

 

Q6. Can I change my appointment?

You could request for change of appointment by submitting a written notice to the Driving Test Appointment Office at least SEVEN clear days prior to your test date (Note: For the purpose of satisfying the requirement of seven days of notice, the day of the scheduled test and that day on which the notice is deemed to be given are excluded. In other words, there should be seven days between the two dates. If the application is sent by post, the date of the postmark is taken as the day on which the notice is deemed to be received. If the application is sent by drop box, the date of dropping the application is taken as the day the application received. In addition, candidate should submit the signed written application for postponement together with the copy of identification document).

 

Q7. How do I know I have successfully made a valid appointment?

After you completed the payment, an appointment letter showing the details of your test will be displayed and you should print the appointment letter for confirmation.

 

Q8. Am I eligible to apply for a repeater early test appointment?

You can apply for a repeater early test appointment if you meet the following criteria –

(a) Repeaters of Non-commercial Vehicle (Including Private Car, Light Goods Vehicle and Motor Cycle) Road Test

  • Failed or partially passed in the last road test.
(b) Repeaters of Commercial Vehicle (Including Medium Goods Vehicle, Heavy Goods Vehicle, Private / Public Bus, Private / Public Light Bus and Articulated Vehicle) Road Test

  • Failed in the last road test for commercial vehicles; AND; AND
  • Have not been convicted of any specified serious traffic offence in the 5 years immediately preceding the application.

If you have purchased a test form for the relevant driving test you would like to apply for, or you hold a full driving licence which has expired over 3 years, you are not allowed to apply for a repeater early test appointment.

If you are aged 70 or above, and you are a disabled candidate who have passed the driving ability assessment or hearing ability assessment and have obtained an approval letter, you are allowed to reserve a repeater early test appointment. However, you are required to bring along the required documents to our designated Licensing Offices in person or by agent within a specified period to complete the reservation for a Repeater Early Test Appointment.

 

Q9. Why I failed to apply for a repeater early test appointment and the error message of "Sorry, you are not eligible to apply for a repeater early test appointment. [517-E-0404]" popped up?

Only candidates who failed or partially passed in the last road test are eligible for application for a repeater early test appointment. Candidates who have already purchased a test form, or holds a full driving licence which has expired over 3 years, are not allowed to apply for a repeater early test appointment.

If you consider you are eligible to apply for a repeater early test appointment, please contact the Driving Test Appointment Office (address: Transport Department, 2/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon) for enquiry. You may be required to provide relevant road test result record if necessary.

 

Q10. When will the ballot be held?

Balloting will be held on working days (i.e. Mondays to Fridays). The ballot will be rescheduled to the next working date if it is a public holiday.

 

Q11. How many reservations can I make?

You can only register once for the balloting for the failed test part of the vehicle class in respect of which you are eligible to apply for during the registered balloting period.

 

Q12. When will my registration expired?

The validity of the registered ballot period is subject to the ballot type you have opted for during registration:

  • Candidates who opt for single balloting will participate in only one balloting on the next working day after the registration date;
  • Candidates who opt for continuous balloting will be included in the ballot pool for each balloting for two weeks counting from the next working day after the registration date.
 

Q13. How do I know if my registration has expired?

If you are not successful in any balloting within the registered balloting period, you will receive a notification via the notification means you have selected (i.e. SMS or email). You may register again for the balloting the earliest on the ballot end date subject to your individual needs.

 

Q14. How many vacant test slots will be available each day?

Vacant test slots in the period from the 7th to 30th working day counting from the next working day after the candidates have won the ballot will be available for their selection. The number of vacant test slots available mainly depends on the number of candidates applying for postponement or temporary cancellation of tests.

 

Q15. Is there any fee for registering for the ballot?

Transport Department will only charge $510 for the driving test form fee. No extra fees will be charged for registering for the balloting.

 

Q16. When and how can I register for the ballot?

If you are eligible to apply for a repeater early test appointment, you can register for the balloting via the website of Online Booking for Driving Tests (www.gov.hk/drivingtest) (“the Online System") or the Repeater Early Test Appointment Booking Service Hotline (2866 8148) (“the Telephone Hotline”) from 11:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays. Registration service is not available on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

 

Q17. How do I know if I have successfully registered for the ballot?

Upon successful registration, you will receive a ballot reference number and registration details on the day you registered for balloting via the notification means you selected (i.e. SMS or email). You may also enquire your registration record via the Online System or the Telephone Hotline (2866 8148).

 

Q18. What if I forget my ballot reference number / would like to enquire my registration details?

You may enquire your ballot reference number and corresponding registration details via the Online System or the Telephone Hotline (2866 8148) after completing the personal authentication.

 

Q19. Can I cancel a registration for balloting?

You may cancel your ballot registration via the Online System or the Telephone Hotline (2866 8148) between 9:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. daily. The cancellation is irrevocable under any circumstances. Subject to your individual needs, you may register for the balloting again on the next working day the earliest after the cancellation.

Repeaters who have won a ballot will be notified via the notification means they have selected (SMS or email). Q21. When and how can I select test date if I have won the ballot?

If you have won the ballot, you will receive a ballot Personal Identification Number (PIN) via email or SMS. You have to login to the Online System or dialing the Telephone Hotline for selection of a test slot from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the date you have won the ballot. The PIN is only valid before the end of test slot selection on the date of issue.

 

Q22. What if I fail to select test date by deadline?

If you have won a ballot but failed to select a test slot during the specified period, you are deemed to have given up the reservation. If you have won a ballot on more than one occasion and has given up twice in a row on the selection of a test slot, you may be debarred from registering for balloting for any vehicle class in the following 30 calendar days.

Q24. How can I pay and confirm the reservation? Is there any deadline?

Upon successful reservation of repeater early test appointment, you should login with a valid personal digital certificate / iAM Smart+ account to the Online System, or bring along in person or by authorised agent with (i) original or photocopy of your identity document, (ii) the duly completed driving test application form (TD82 for non-commercial vehicles / TD321 for commercial vehicles) with original signature and the documents required, including original or photocopy of present address proof (residential address or correspondence address) issued within the last 3 months (e.g. utility or telecommunication bills, correspondence from banks, insurance companies, government departments, local universities, local or international charitable organisations etc.), and (iii) duly completed “Part III: Authorisation” of the “Acknowledgement on Repeater Early Test Appointment Reservation” with original signature (only applicable for applications confirmed by agent. The acknowledgement can be obtained from the afore-mentioned website or by Fax via the Telephone Hotline) to pay and confirm your repeater early test appointment at the specified Licensing Office during office hours (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, except public holidays) within 2 working days the date of successful reservation.

Q25. What if I do not pay and confirm the reservation by the payment due date?

If you fail to pay the test form fee and confirm your repeater early test appointment on or before the payment due date, your reservation will be cancelled and you will not be allowed to register for the balloting for any vehicle classes within the following 30 calendar days.

 

Q26. Is the reservation/appointment transferrable?

No, all reservations / appointments are not transferrable.

 

Q27. Can I cancel the reserved repeater early test appointment?

If you have won a ballot but have not settled the payment, you can cancel the reserved repeater early test appointment via the Online System or the Telephone Hotline with the Ballot PIN before 5:00 p.m. on the date you won the ballot. All cancelled repeater early test appointment reservations cannot be reinstated.

You can only cancel the reservation ONCE. If you cancel the reservation twice consecutively, you may not be allowed to register for balloting for any vehicle class in the following 30 calendar days.

 

Q28. Can I change my confirmed test appointment?

Once the test form fee is paid and the repeater early test appointment is confirmed, the appointment cannot be changed unless for health reasons in which case only end-of-list appointment will be given, subject to the validity period of the test form.

 

Q29. I have lost my Acknowledgement on Repeater Early Test Appointment Reservation, what can I do?

You can enquire your repeater early test appointment(s) details (including cancelled reservation) via the Online System or the Telephone Hotline if the relevant test dates fall on or after the enquiry date. Upon successful retrieval of the record, you can download / print your Part III: Authorisation” of the “Acknowledgement on Repeater Early Test Appointment Reservation (if authorise an agent to pay and confirm reservation) and appointment letter (if the appointment was paid and confirmed online).
